The right to freedom of expression is contained in section 16 of the Constitution. It serves to empower everyone to express themselves in both political and non-political contexts. Yet the right is a controversial one. The biggest issue associated with the right is how to balance it against various other rights that are implicated by certain forms of expression. We can all broadly agree that while people should be allowed to express themselves freely, they cannot always say whatever they like.
