SAHRC investigates plight of trapped illegal miners

The SA Human Rights Commission is investigating an allegation by a community member of Stilfontein in North West that the police's action in denying scores of illegal miners trapped underground in an abandoned mine shaft of food, water and medication could cause their deaths. The commission claimed the complainant accused the police of allegedly infringing on the illegal miners' right to life. SAHRC officials visited the mine in the North West and spoke to community leaders and the police. Phemelo speaks to Commissioner at the SAHRC, Philile Ntuli.
