Mchunu, Gwarube launch Safe Schools Protocol to fight violence at schools

At least 283 schools in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape have been identified as hotspots for violence. This figure was announced by police minister Senzo Mchunu during the launch of the Safe Schools Protocol by the SAPS and the basic education department.Mchunu expressed deep concern over the increasing number of violent incidents in schools. Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube emphasised that school governing bodies are empowered by their codes of conduct to take disciplinary action, including expulsion, against disruptive and violent pupils.
