Phemelo speaks to Gauteng Infrastructure Department spokesperson Theo Nkonki about an ongoing court battle over the illegal occupation of the Bagomane Primary School in Diepkloof, Soweto. Closed in the early 2000s, the school was converted into makeshift housing by residents in 2018. Despite living with no electricity and sharing communal taps and toilets, the occupants refuse to leave, demanding proper housing. Nkonki says the department is seeking a lawful resolution through the courts to ensure the safe and legal removal of the residents.
