Tshepisong Residents Clash with Police Over Illegal Connections

Tensions ran high in Tshepisong as residents confronted police and City Power technicians trying to disconnect illegal electricity connections. The power utility says their workers were held hostage and forced to retreat after facing hostility. Despite R8 million spent since January to replace overloaded transformers, the illegal connections continue, and not enough residents are paying for power. City Power says it had to scrap plans for further disconnections after police deemed the operation too risky due to manpower shortages. Phemelo speaks to City Power Spokesperson, Isaac Mangena.
