More than 347 suspects have been arrested across Gauteng Province in the various law enforcement operations conducted by Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP), Gauteng Traffic Wardens (GTWs), South African Police Service (SAPS), and Metro Police Departments (MPDs). High-density operations and Operation Shanela were conducted from Friday, 03 October 202, 5 to Sunday, 05 October 2025. In total, about 4465 people and 1340 vehicles were searched in all five regions. Additionally, the Gauteng Traffic Police issued 1491 fines to motorists for various traffic violations, including speeding, failure to wear seat belts, moving offences, unlicensed or unregistered vehicles, and vehicle defects. A total of twenty-four (24) vehicles were impounded, while nine (9) were discontinued for being unroadworthy. Several motorists were also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, with the highest recorded breath alcohol level at 1.33 mg/l.
The most excessive speeding incident involved a motorist driving at 201 km/h along the N4 in Bronkhorstspruit. Fifty-five (55) suspects were arrested in the City of Tshwane, while eighteen (18) of those accounted for charges of public drinking, nine (9) for possession of drugs and twenty-three (23) for contravention of the immigration act. The officers targeted crime hotspot areas including Pretoria Central, Akasia, Olievenhoutbosch, Atteridgeville, and Sunnyside amongst others.
