Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero says help is on the way for residents battling dry taps. Unveiling the city’s new turnaround strategy, Morero revealed that Joburg Water has cut off illegal connections in three informal settlements and is now taking back control of its billing and revenue functions. The mayor said the plan is aimed at “stabilising water supply and restoring confidence” in the city’s ability to deliver. Project Manager Cyrus Tavaria outlined both short- and long-term priorities, including a major reservoir rehabilitation rollout next year in areas like Yeoville, Alexander Park, and Ennerdale. He also confirmed an 85-kilometre water pipe replacement drive in the 2025/26 financial year, a move expected to improve reliability for thousands of households. Phemelo speaks to Joburg Water Project Manager for Turnaround Strategy, Cyrus Tavaria.
