Kiren Thathiah is a creative academic; Born in Durban, his teacher father decided to move away from Durban to, initially, Umkomaas, then Sezela and back to Umkomaas before returning to Durban almost twenty years later. These formative years shaped Kiren's worldview in ways that no formal education ever could.
He studied at the University of Durban Westville when he eventually lectured in Fine Art, History of Art and Public Management.

While primarily a visual artist and academic with exhibitions nationally and internationally (eg: Durban, Johannesburg Germany, France and Germany) works in private and public collections and many academic publications to his name, Kiren has also composed the songs for a music CD with SA Local Content: See Mela video: https://youtu.be/AZ0V_SGGUAI?si=EARmeri5HZaLiF3W
and published two novels.

This novel is set in Sezela. See Prof Rajend Mesthrie's foreword:
