Minneapolis protests deepen & SA pulls back from G20 under US presidency

In Minneapolis, residents are refusing to retreat after the fatal shootings of two people by federal agents. Instead, communities are organising night patrols, marching through freezing streets and pushing back against what they see as heavy-handed enforcement under the Trump administration. The deaths of ICU nurse Alex Pretti and Renee Good have fuelled anger and reshaped what resistance looks like in the city. Back home, South Africa is recalibrating its global stance. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has confirmed the country will scale back its G20 participation during the US presidency, calling it a “temporary setback”. This follows Donald Trump’s declaration that South Africa would be excluded from US-hosted G20 events. Phemelo gets perspective from global affairs specialist Dr Terence McNamee.
