Research and Advocacy organisation Good Governance Africa just last week released their findings from a survey conducted on the informal economy in Johannesburg and Accra, Ghana.
The country’s informal sector, according to data from the Ghana Statistical Services (GSS), is now worth more than a quarter of the economy’s total value – re-igniting the longstanding debate over finding innovative means to rope the sector into the tax net to shore up domestic revenue.
Kaya FM’s Dinika Naidoo spoke to Edward Sarpong from Ghana, who’s role was to conduct the survey in communities in and around Ghana. Edward is a governance and urban development consultant, and currently sits on the Ghana Urbanization Think Tank
